Paradise Road Galleries is pleased to present Sameera Kalupahana’s exhibition Rural Rhythms, a pulsating portrayal of the everyday in the coastal hamlets of Beruwala. Rural Rhythms is a lyrical ode to the rustic and the idyllic that finds beauty in the intertwining of hardships and tenderness, bittersweet moments and zest for life. His work offers glimpses into the fishing community and their everyday activities, centres of worship around which their lives revolve, and sightings that bring warmth.
Kalupahana romanticizes the countryside. The brilliance of the sunkissed shores and the fleeting breeze arriving from the sea appears as a low, invisible hum through his brushwork, lending itself into Kalupahana’s captivating essay in oil colours on the charm of rural existence.
Sameera Kalupahana was born in Sri Lanka in 1978. He graduated from Vibhavi Academy of Fine Arts in Colombo in 2000. Kalupahana’s works have been exhibited both locally and internationally and his works belong to both local and international collections.
The exhibition is on view until 11 October 2023, from 10 AM - Midnight daily at Paradise Road Galleries.
