A nostalgia for a bygone time and a longing for tranquillity permeates the artwork in ‘A Journey Within’. Gamage imagines the railway station as a place for serene convening, as he snips moments of quietude from the clamour and chaos that otherwise is the hallmark of these sites. The colonial-era architecture of railway stations, often evoking an old-world charm, serves as a metaphor for a distant past when life moved at a slower pace. 

Through a nearly meditative process, the artist works with scraps of materials that are often dispensable, such as tea bags, gauze, and sporting times papers as he thinks about the transitory nature of existence. The unhurried movement of the Hora seed, as it gyrates through the wind, lends to the visual imagery of the series - underpinning this longing for solace, as it beckons the viewer to pause and reflect.
